Someone could be hurt
You got a shock from a tap or an appliance
A tingle or a jolt from a tap, a geyser, a washing machine or a fridge.
If somebody is hurt, or there are flames, call Rescue 1122 first. Do that before you read the rest of this page.
Do this now
- Do not touch it again. Tell everyone in the house, especially children, not to touch it either.
- Switch off the main breaker for the house, or at the very least the breaker for the geyser and the water motor.
- Stay out of that bathroom or kitchen until the power is off.
- If anyone was knocked over, felt their chest tighten, or cannot let go of something, call Rescue 1122 first. Everything else can wait.

Whatever you do, don't
- Do not test it by touching it again to see whether it really shocked you.
- Do not let anybody shower or wash with that water until it has been checked.
- Do not assume it is static. Static does not come out of a tap.
Then what?
This almost always means one of two things: the earthing has failed, or a geyser element is leaking current into the water. Both can kill someone in a wet bathroom, and both are fixable. Message us and say you got a shock — we treat these ahead of everything else.
