You can smell gas
Gas in the kitchen, near the geyser, or anywhere in the house.
If somebody is hurt, or there are flames, call Rescue 1122 first. Do that before you read the rest of this page.
Do this now
- Do not touch any switch. Not to turn a light on, and not to turn one off. The spark is what sets it off.
- Open the doors and windows.
- If you can reach the meter safely on your way out, turn the gas off there.
- Get everyone out of the house.
- From outside, away from the smell, call the gas company emergency line: [GAS EMERGENCY NUMBER]

Whatever you do, don't
- Do not switch lights, fans or the exhaust on or off.
- Do not light a match, a lighter or the stove.
- Do not press the doorbell.
- Do not go back inside to check whether the smell has gone.
Then what?
We do not repair gas leaks, and you should not trust anyone in home maintenance who says they can. That is the gas company’s job, they have the equipment for it, and calling them costs you nothing. Once they have made the line safe, we can repair whatever appliance was involved — a geyser, a connection, a fitting.
